A useful first check
If the device is cool, dry and visibly undamaged, try a known-good compatible cable, power adapter and wall outlet. Check whether the same charger works with another compatible phone. Note whether the device shows a charging icon, vibrates, turns on briefly or gives a warning.
Do not force the connector, scrape the port with metal tools or repeatedly try to charge a wet, swollen or unusually hot phone. A moisture alert or visible damage changes the next step. Tell the technician before arranging an ordinary repair appointment.
Describe the symptom, not just “broken port”
| What happens | Useful detail for your enquiry |
|---|---|
| Only charges at an angle | Does another cable fit properly? Has the connector become loose? |
| Cable fails but wireless charging works | State the model and charger tests; this helps diagnosis but does not prove a port fault. |
| Charges slowly | Mention the charger, cable, warning messages and whether the phone is in use. |
| No response at all | Describe the last successful charge, drops, liquid exposure and any earlier repairs. |
iPhone Lightning and USB-C models use different assemblies. Samsung and Pixel models vary too. Share the full model or model code and say whether computer data transfer still works, if you already know.
Cleaning, port replacement or another repair?
Lint or debris can prevent a cable from seating. Physical connector damage may need a replacement assembly. Battery and board faults can also cause charging symptoms. The supported process depends on the device and assessment; replacing the port without identifying the cause may not help.
For this reason, HomeCall Tech provides a model-specific quote after diagnosis rather than a made-up universal charging-port price. Ask whether the quote covers assessment, cleaning or replacement, the part and labour, applicable taxes, any travel charge and what is payable if you decline the repair.
Get help in London and surrounding areas
HomeCall Tech can start your charging enquiry by call or text. Include the model, symptoms, tests already tried and your general area. We confirm parts, repair suitability and whether a home or workplace visit is practical. Komoka, Kilworth, Dorchester, St. Thomas and Strathroy requests are checked individually.
Back up the device if it still works. If preserving data matters more than restoring charging, say so before work is authorized. Complex board repairs and data recovery are not automatically available through a mobile appointment.

Questions about this repair
Should I clean the charging port myself?
Avoid metal tools, force and liquid cleaners. Describe the cable fit and visible symptoms to a service provider. Inspection can establish whether cleaning is appropriate.
Can you guarantee that replacing the port will fix charging?
No. Similar symptoms can come from cables, adapters, moisture, batteries or other hardware. The diagnosis determines the appropriate repair and quote.
